Gratitude Practice
Welcome to 2022! I don’t know about you, but I am flying into this new year with more joy and excitement than I can ever remember, and I believe that it’s due to one simple practice…gratitude.
If you already have a gratitude practice in place, then you know the powerful impact it can have. If you don’t then I would love to challenge you to try it for 30 days. To help you get started here are five uncomplicated tips.
1. Chose a time that already affords you a few minutes to yourself.
· I do mine as part of my morning routine and I know people who prefer to do it at the end of the day as they’re winding down. You can choose whatever works best for you. It does not have to take more than five minutes. Some mornings I only need 30 seconds.
2. Think of things that are not obvious.
· We are all grateful for our homes, loved ones, jobs, etc. Try going a little deeper by thinking smaller. This causes us to pay closer attention and be more present.
3. Write it down.
· I know a lot of people who say, I already have a gratitude practice, but I don’t write it down. I agree that even thinking about what we’re grateful for can make a difference but there is something more profound that happens when we connect pen to paper and see the words.
4. Don’t get fancy.
· A simple spiral bound notebook or even a napkin will do. I like using notebooks or journals because it keeps them all in one, neat and tidy place. Writing it down somewhere, anywhere, is really all that counts.
5. Be consistent.
· Following through is easier when you are consistent with time of day, materials and I would even say location. Finding a space where you can get five or ten minutes without interruptions can certainly make your practice meaningful and more enjoyable.
If you want to try it and you need encouragement or accountability, send me an email. I’m happy to help you get started and give more tips on ways to make it a regular part of your day.
