I love libraries. However, I have long struggled with the new Des Moines library, especially if you remember it previous location. What is now the World Food Prize building is a beautiful old structure that looks very much like what might have been someone’s home in bygone days. A stark comparison to today’s library that is completely made of glass.
Admittedly, at night, when all the lights from inside turn it into a see-through marvel, it has a certain appeal. Still, during the day, the pinkish hue has always been a bit of a turn-off for me. Until I started to notice its ability to reflect its surroundings and how those reflections change along with the changing light of the day.
So, expect to see a few more pictures from me of this chameleon-like space. It really does have a beauty all its own.
